(06/09/2013) The European Union has agreed to reduce 60% of CO2 emissions in the transport sector in 2050. In this concern, the electric vehicle is the key. As a result, there is an avalanche of conferences and events dedicated to this product (see, for example, the upcoming events ENAVATE and “Boosting European Electric Vehicle Market”). Moreover, ground transport is not the only modality for this vehicles, but also sea transportation (see eg PLUGBOAT -although dedicated to sports and leisure-) and aircrafts (see sample prototypes at IEEE Spectrum).
However, changing the fleet of vehicles is not the single action required to implement the use of electric vehicles, but
Another indicator of the reality of electric vehicles is in the engineering curricula, which collect subjects devoted exclusively to this type of vehicle. For example, at the University of Girona, the Electrical Engineering degrees include the subject "electric drive vehicles" designed not only to cars, but also to trains, which are working since a long time ago with this type of energy.
Another issue to address is whether the electric vehicle is the only alternative to gasoline. We must be aware of the results of conferences and symposia to learn more about that.
(21/06/2013) During the 18, 19 and 20th of June, the 15th International Logistics & Material Handling Exhibition has been held in Barcelona, with more than 500 participating companies. This year the event has taken place in a different location than in the previous editions, in the Hall 8 of the Exhibition Center of Fira de Barcelon at Montjuic. According to Enrique Lacalle, presidend of the Exhibition, this change in location is because "we want to be closer to Barcelona so that all exhibitors and visitors can fully enjoy everything Barcelona can offer to them".
During SIL there have been several conferences and networking events. Among other,s there have been the "11th Mediterranean Logistics & Transport Forum", the "Smart energy" conference which has discusses about new energy sources such as GLP and the use of ITC, and the "EU Core Net Cities", a conference organised by the Barcelona City Council with the aim of creating a network of cities to promote the development of trans-european rail corridors.
This year SIL has also hosted SynergyS, a networking program promoted by Barcelona Activa together with KIMBcn. SynergyS' goal is to create synergies and business opportunities between companies and local SMEs through challenges (addressed by tractor companies) and solutions (provided by other companies in the metropolitan area of Barcelona).
(17/5/2013) Pere Padrosa, the Chief Executive Officer of the Transport and Mobility Department of the Generalitat of Catalonia, visited the facilities of the Science and Technology Park of Girona.
Padrosa visited companies based in the park in relation to transport and mobility: WIKILOC, an internet platform in which an international community of users share outdoor routes; FROGBUS, which has created a series of partnerships with private bus operators in France and Spain to enhance bus networks, and Newronia, which has shown to Mr. Padrosa the latest developments concerning the optimization of road transport of goods and people.
(8/2/2013) During yesterday, Newronia participated in the third edition of the Forum organized by the Science and Technology Park of the University of Girona. Throughout the day there were different exhibitions of technological opportunities. The forum served as a showcase for 50 products, 25 of which were presented orally in the auditorium of the building Narcís Monturiol.
It was a didactic presentation, with the aim of explaining the usefulness of planning and optimization products as an opportunity to improve business processes.
The attendance was remarkable, with up to 200 people from various fields, business, and university.
(24/1/2013) Routing Reparto is a joint initiative of Nexus Geogràfics and Newronia to support planning of routes, so fuel costs are minimized. It is a product that combines, on the one hand, the strong tradition in mapping management by the Nexus Geographic company and, on the other hand, the technological innovation in optimization by Newronia. Precisely due to its ICT innovation component, it has been included in the Showroom of Spurna.
The Showroom is a space in the Narcís Monturiol building at the Technology Park of the University of Girona, which in Spurna, in collaboration with the Association of New Technologies of Girona (AENTEG), aims to show the advances in digital technologies in the field of ICT-Media steered and developed in the Girona.
Routing Reparto optimizes workers time, the number of vehicles used for transportation or service displacements, improve customer service by fulfilling the established schedules, being driving regulatory compliant, while reducing mileage and therefore reducing CO2 emissions.
Yesterday's ceremony was presented by Jordi Soler (Director of Spurna), Josep Calbò (Knowledge Transfer and Research Vice Chancellor of the University of Girona), Joan Ribas (President of AENTEG), and Marta Madrenas (Deputy Mayor of Girona).
